Karl Kosiorek, CI/CT
President and Owner
DAS is owned and operated by Mr. Karl Kosiorek, a nationally certified sign language interpreter with over 30 years of experience in the field who has extensive experience in both community interpreting and VRS. In his almost 30 years of management , Mr. Kosiorek has directly managed two of the largest sign language interpreting agencies in the nation and has also previously served as Senior Vice President of a leading national VRS company. Karl completed an Interpreter Training Program in Baltimore, MD; holds a BS degree in Communication Studies from Towson University; and obtained a Master’s Degree in Business Management from John Hopkins University. He holds both CI and CT certifications from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Mr. Kosiorek maintains the right balance of respecting the intricate needs of Deaf & Hard-of-Hearing consumers and those who serve them while being able to effectively manage a business at the same time.
PJ Carberg, CI/CT
Director of Business Development and Contracts
PJ Carberg is a nationally certified sign language interpreter who has nearly 25 years of experience in the field of sign language interpretation. Ms. Carberg has extensive management experience having been involved in management at several interpreting companies for over 20 years. During her career, PJ has had experience as a staff interpreter, an independent contractor, a consultant, a supervisor, a trainer, and a number of other prominent roles, with a concentration in the areas of interpreter recruitment and business marketing. PJ currently oversees DAS’ Business Development and Client Relations, fostering business relationships and maintaining a strong connection with clients who depend on us most for quality interpretation and CART services. DAS is fortunate to have someone of PJ’s caliber in this role.
Leah Gomez, BA
Director of Client Relations
Leah Gomez graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park, with a Bachelor of Science Degree. As a native of the Washington DC Metropolitan area, Ms. Gomez originally came to DAS as a Coordinator with over ten years of experience in administration and project management at her previous job. Ms. Gomez was quickly promoted to Supervisor of the Coordination team and has been supervising the coordination team of ten (10) full-time coordinators in multiple time zones for several years. Leah enjoys putting together the many puzzle pieces of coordination to include consumer preferences, interpreter preferences, DNS’s, the and the ever-changing schedule, as well as working closely with all of DAS’ interpreters, requestors, consumers, and clients. As the Director of Client Relations, Leah works directly with clients and requestor to ensure their needs are met, and still overseeing the well-oiled machine that is the DAS coordination team!
Anne Braun, CI/CT
Director of Resourses
Anne Braun graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut University and a Master’s Degree in Deaf Education from Gallaudet University. Ms. Braun taught Deaf children for nine years before entering the field of American Sign Language/English interpretation. Anne has interpreted in the DMV area for twenty-five years. During her career Anne has served not only as an interpreter but also as an adjunct professor, mentor, workshop presenter, coordinator for interpreting services, chair of professional development and board member for the local RID chapter. Anne is committed to the Deaf people she works with, her own professional growth and is passionate about helping other interpreters develop and refine their skills in the interpreting field. Anne will work alongside of Kelli Grant supporting staff interpreters, freelancers and captionists. She will manage resources and ensure that DAS remains a company committed to its employees and the communities we serve.
Sura Lutvak, NIC
Director of Contractor Relations
Sura graduated with a BA in American Sign Language from the University of Rochester, and an MA in American Sign Language Interpreting from Gallaudet University. She has been interpreting in the DC area for 10 years, and served in a variety roles, including freelance interpreter, staff interpreter, and designated interpreter. Sura enjoys mentoring interpreters who are building bridges between their educational experience and their professional goals. She firmly believes that interpreting is a “practicing profession,” which requires continual effort toward improvement. Her management experience includes supervising one of the largest VRS centers on the East Coast. She also has experience supporting interpreters nationwide as DAS’ former Freelance Liaison. Sura works closely with Anne Braun to support freelance interpreters and CART writers. She also works closely with Leah Gomez to support the coordination team.
