Stretchercises with Moira Sweeney, NIC

“Stretchercises” workshop is an opportunity for fellow interpreters to stretch and relax their working muscles outside of a yoga studio.  The intent of the workshop is to teach interpreters to use their muscles, mind and breath in a safer, more productive manner.  In a four-hour workshop, interpreters will learn simple exercises that safely relax and stretch muscles used every day on the job. Some of the areas of focus will include: the mind to release mental and physical stress; the breath to offer immediate ease/relaxation; the eyes and ears to reduce physical strain; wrists, hands and fingers to improve fine motor coordination; shoulders, neck and core to encourage stability and strength; and feet to access the power of feeling centered and grounded.

Participants will be seated and standing at various times throughout the workshop and will practice fun and effective techniques that will reduce stress before, during, and after assignments. Previous yoga or fitness experience is not necessary. Comfortable clothing is recommended. Participants will leave the workshop knowing techniques to feel lighter, brighter, happier, and both more energetic and deeply relaxed.
